I woke up at 05:20 this morning for work which didn’t seem as hard as it usually is today. Maybe it’s because I sleep a bit better now that I take my paracetamol to get my temp down. I wasn’t sure if the advice to take it was working, but now I recon it makes a difference.
I got into the shower and it started to push out cold water every so often. We have reported it but waiting for repairs. As if it isn’t cold enough?! I had to rush to get ready so wasn’t able to let Logan out of his crate before work. I usually get the chance to do it earlier when I’m working an early shift. Today it wasn’t possible because of how late I was running. Nate had his alarm set for 07:00 to get him up and fed. Just so happens he has a well earned day off after working 7 days in a row last week. Ahh the thought of that exhausts me right now!
I had no choice but to creep into the kitchen, hoping Logan wouldn’t hear me grab food and take my tablets. I’m hoping I won’t need to take as many post transplant. Once I took my meds, I put my coat on and stepped out of the house. My gosh it was so cold this morning. I felt like I needed to be sponsored to step outside!!
I was determined to organise discharge for one of my palliative patients. He has been on our ward for a couple of weeks so thought it would also be nice to take him to the bathroom to wash, before his family came to visit. He had been happy just having washes by the bed, but there’s nothing like having a hot shower. His wife and daughter were saying how well he looked when they arrived soon after. It’s the least I could have done. Knowing that I could make a difference in such a simple way, reminds me of how much I love my job.
Got home to Nate and Logan for lunch around 2pm. I’m now snuggled up with a hot water bottle and a blanket. I’m looking forward to this cold weather to be over now. It’s March soon. My birthday month! ☺️ Yeyyyy!
My morning cocktail.
