21.10.18 – Recovery

It’s hard to know in recovery what your body is capable of. Ive always been one to push myself and want to do as much as I can. I started the Couch 2 5K really enjoying it. I didn’t find it easy, but I was managing to follow the plan. 3 weeks later, I started to struggle, so repeated the same week as I knew I wasn’t ready for the next stage. This week just gone was the start of week 4. I pushed myself through run 1 and 2 which left me sore and drained. I ended up relying on pain relief to get me through work on Thursday and spent most of Friday in bed. I think I’ll go back to week 3 because now I know I’m not quite ready for the next stage yet. Couch 2 5k probably isn’t for someone who’s 6 weeks post transplant.

When in recovery, you never know what your limits are. I’m a bit irritable, anxious and tired compared to how I was 3 weeks ago. One of the reasons why I started couch 2 5k was to try and build up my stamina so that I could increase my hours at work. It’s all about experimenting and getting the balance right. Two steps forward, one step back.

Congratulations to the wonderful couple Jenny and Erik. I headed to London yesterday to celebrate their engagement. Jenny and I have pretty much grown up together. We both lived down the road from each other, went to nursery, primary and secondary school together. She then went on to study medicine in London, and now graduated this year! Congratulations to all you have achieved and to both of you on your engagement! 😘

A ‘JenErik’ engagement party! 😁

A few old school friends, some of which I haven’t seen in almost 12 years!
