23.08.19 – Pain Team

I’ve recently had an appointment with the pain team to try and decide what alternative treatment could be offered. It wasn’t easy to hear them saying that I’d probably have this nerve pain for life. That hit me harder than I thought but I think it was because I had heard it from a professional. I did think to myself that that was the case, but to hear it out loud was hard. During the nurse led clinic, they went through different treatment options that may provide safer and longer lasting relief. It was suggested that I consider a nerve block under Ultrasound. This was a sense of hope as I was keen to try anything. Anything! I went onto discuss this further with the Dr and signed a consent form. Just over a week later, I went in for the procedure. It took 15 mins to do and was fairly painless. Its very unfortunate for me to say that is hasn’t worked at all. I find the pain debilitating and go through days struggling to do much at all, in agony at work, de motivated and experience fatigue. There are some alternative treatments and medications so I haven’t given up on finding a treatment, but ideally I’d like to reduce the pain relief tablets I’m on but I believe that this is unlikely to ever happen.

A couple weeks ago, I was invited by a Punjabi TV programme to speak about organ donation in the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic community (BAME). I was joined by a friend and her family to discuss this live on TV. It was also a pledge to help my friend (Snay) to find an organ donor and encourage people to consider, discuss and sign up as an organ donor.

Usually if on the super urgent list, the wait tends to be from a couple of days to a couple of weeks, but she has been waiting months. I think and pray for her every single day. I have hope as her drs are confident she will get a transplant as she is well enough to be out of hospital.

Ohh I’ve also got some BIG NEWS! My little sister is ENGAGED!! 😍 Shes asked me to design the wedding invites. 🙌🏼

Click here to sign up to organ donation! It is equally important to discuss your wishes with your family, so that they support your decision. Thank you!

  1. Hi Olivia
Sorry to hear your pain is still an issue. I sincerely hope you can find a solution. There must be something. I take it you have second opinions on this matter?
I once had a bad in my knee and I went to 2 different specialist and they told me nothing could be done . It kept bothering me so I went to another specialist . This guy didn’t even have to run xrays or scans. He played with my leg and said it felt like torn cartilage . He went in with scope and I’ve never had a problem again.
Moral of story is never give up on one or two opinions .
Congratulations to your sister from Winnipeg, Manitoba !!
    Ok take care Olivia

  2. Hi Olivia, I’m so sorry to hear that your procedure has not provided pain relief. Pain is so debilitating and I really feel for you.
I hope Snay finds a suitable donor soon. Tricia x

    1. Hi Tricia, it feels strange calling you by your first name… instead of Mrs Ward-Jones.
I’m managing the pain as well as I can and have been able to slowly increase my hours so at least I’m getting somewhere. Slowly but surely.
Snay is alright. She’s just fed up now which is understandable.

  3. I feel for you Olivia, after I had open heart surgery four months ago the hardest thing was my ribs and nerves joining back together, I would go to sleep only to be woken up with a sharp pain almost like a rubber band flicking on my side 😬 Have you heard about weighted blankets? They are really good, I wonder if that would ease your pain ?
